Memorial Day Fun.

We had such a fun Memorial Day this year! Our Bishop was nice enough to invite us to come along with his family to our local cemetery. It's ranked #3 or something nationally for it's beauty. It really is something! He knows a lot about some of the grave sites of prominent people buried here so it really was a fun day learning about people in history and visiting with some of our good friends. We had so much fun! Jeremy and his two babes... and the rest of the group.
My friends and I trekking down the hill to see this neat grave...
Lincoln liked all the big statues and monuments. One day we were early for church so I went for a little drive with the kids through this cemetery. Lincoln saw all of the big tombs and things and he said, "Mommy, is this where Jesus was buried and then he got resurrected?" I thought that was so cute!
This is the beautiful Wade Chapel. I'm not sure the story behind this one... but it sure is pretty!
Graham made lots of new friends with his smiles... Bishop Albrecht even shared his hat with him to protect his little bald head!
Gracie was a slow poker.... but she's just so cute!
The plaque near this grave site reads: "Cleveland Indians shortstop killed by a ball thrown by Yankee pitcher Carl Mays at the New York Polo Grounds. He is the only Major League Player killed by a pitchers ball. Fans paid for his monument with nickels and dimes." I thought that was interesting and fun thing to see. Fans leave baseball bats on his grave each Memorial Day.
Gracie got tired oh... a fourth of the way through... we took turns carrying our princess.
The Albrecht family (minus Bishop). Left to Right: Claudia, Maya, Andrew and Katie. We call them our adopted parents because they take such good care of us here in Cleveland. Maya was one of my sweet Young Women and Katie is in my Valiants class now. They help me out during Sacrament meeting by sitting with me almost every week. I love this family SO much.
The Jones Family. We love these guys. Back row: Matt, David and Jenny. Front row: Bryan, Adam and Bethany. Bryan and Adam are in my Valiants class and I visit teach Jenny. It was so fun to have their kids there that day! They said some funny things... Bethany thought that all of the big monuments were there because giants were buried under them!
Some of the group... we must have walked a few miles and didn't see even a fourth of the cemetery!
This is one of the Bishops ancestors grave sites. The pillars were actually taken from the front of their home. They enjoyed sitting out on their porch and so when they died, and the house was destroyed... their family took the pillars and built this monument over their graves.
Gracie loves Katie!
I had no idea that a former President of the United States was buried here! We were able to visit the monument for President Garfield. It was so incredible.
A view from the middle balcony... the whole monument was gorgeous!
The view of Cleveland was amazing! I can't believe how beautiful the city looks from way up here!
We couldn't leave without a little family picture...
Our three favorite baby-sitters! Maya, Andrew and Katie.
Our cute kiddos lined up all in a row... they drew lots of attention from strangers when we were trying to snap this shot!
The actual body is in the basement alongside his wife. His daughter and her husband were cremated and laid to rest there as well. There is also a flag down there from the memorial service. I'm so glad that the Bishop asked us to come along with his family for the day! I never would have known that there were so many neat things in this cemetery. It was such a fun day for us!

Whoa! Whose body is that? Also, that is definitely the coolest cemetary I've ever ever seen!
