We finally got the chance to visit the sites in
Kirtland as a family this week! I don't know why we haven't done it before now... I'll blame it on being busy even though we really don't have an excuse! We ventured out early so that the kids would be on their *best* behavior and we'd be able to get through most of it with them. They did a fantastic job! It was so much fun to walk around with them and teach them about Joseph Smith,
Newell K. Whitney and many other prominent church leaders that lived here. What a testimony building experience to walk where a Prophet of God walked so many years ago. I was brought to tears many times as we learned about these amazing pioneers.

Here are the kids leaving the home of Whitney family. They loved walking around outside... it was such a perfect day!

I loved looking at all the little things they sold in the
Newell K. Whitney store. It was really fun for me to look at the fabrics that they had in there. Such bright colors! They even showed me how they would have measured it back in that time period with the tacks in the
counter top. So cool!

It was also fun to look at the baskets since I took a basket weaving class years ago at
BYU.

The kids loved to play with the ropes along the way. The Sisters were really nice and made the tour very kid friendly and got them involved when they could.

The floor of the Whitney store is original. There are stories that the Prophet Joseph Smith and his wife, Emma, slept on this very floor many times and let their guests have their bed.

You can't leave
Kirtland without getting a family shot on the front steps of the
Newell K. Whitney store! :)

Our
tour guide, Sister
Dowdle, was so great. She said some things to Jeremy and I about our little family that made me know that she is truly in tune with the Spirit and knew exactly what I needed to hear from my Heavenly Father that day. I will never forget the things she said to me as we sat in the School of the Prophets. She truly strengthened my testimony of how Heavenly Father is mindful of His children. He knows just when I need a little boost in my life. Thank you, Sister
Dowdle.

We all enjoyed watching the wheel turn the water around and around and around....

Gracie and I loved the wildflowers that are planted all over the sites. The daisies were so pretty!

Jeremy loved the sawmill. We learned a lot of neat things in there.

You can't visit
Kirtland without stopping to take a picture by the historic temple. We didn't have time to go inside this trip, so we'll be going out again soon. We are so blessed to live so close to all of these wonderful church history sites. It's hard to believe we have to leave it all behind in 2 short years! I can't wait for 10 years down the road when we can bring all of our children back year and share some of our "dental school" experiences with them.
