The caramel apples of death...

So, we decided that our Christmas Eve tradition is going to be making caramel apples as a family. It seemed like a great idea... so we set out to do the job. It really was a lot of fun working side by side and talking about Christmas and things with Jeremy. He's such a sweet husband and we hardly ever get any time alone lately... so it was fun to do something together this holiday. We finally got the caramel to the right temperature for dipping and started the process of covering the apples... it wasn't going fast enough so we both started dipping them. We got a little carried away and some of Jeremy's caramel landed on my fingers...
OUCH! Caramel burns really really hurt! I spent the next half hour with my fingers under the faucet... then another 4 hours with my fingers in ice water. After the kids went to bed for the night, we decided it would be best to go to the Emergency Room because they were starting to blister pretty bad and the pain wasn't going away. So, I spent 3 hours of my Christmas Eve in the E.R. with all different kinds of people. It was pretty sad, but at least my fingers aren't hurting anymore!
And the apples turned out beautifully! I still haven't tried one... I hope that they're good because I'm not sure this tradition will last! :)
